City of Gedern & Region of 10th International Germany 2CV Meeting 2024
Germany's largest volcano in the east, the beautiful Wetterau region in the west and Gedern with its marvellous bathing lake in the middle. This is the perfect place for a holiday.
And here on the large group meadow of the Gedern camping park you can also organise an excellent tent camp for all age groups or even a car meeting.
With Citroën 2CV as an example.
Below we present our host town Gedern and its two regions, which we will certainly add to over the months. Do you have any suggestions? Please write to us: Contact
City of Gedern
Welcome to Gedern, the functioning state-recognised climatic health resort. Together with its suburbs, Gedern has more than 7,500 inhabitants.
The town is a centre and has an intact infrastructure with several discounters and supermarkets, as well as a number of specialist shops, banks, medical care, a wide range of restaurants, petrol stations and a post office somewhere. Surprisingly, the phenomenon known from many medium-sized towns of "empty properties" hardly exists in Gedern.

Gedern has a very beautiful castle, which also houses the tourist information centre. The beautiful castle park, which was laid out as an English landscape garden in the mid-18th century and is freely accessible, invites visitors to linger, especially on hot days, with its tall trees. There is a boules court and, surprise surprise, a draisine. The castle can of course be visited and the adjoining soap factory with its fragrant, home-made soaps can be sniffed out and purchased.
Gedern has an indoor swimming pool and if you want to fly high, you can go to the nearby glider airfield (within walking distance of the meeting place) and perhaps even take a flight. If/then please bring an aerial photo of the meeting place. Thank you.
All of Gedern's sights are presented on the website vulkanstadt.de.
Tip
During your tour, be sure to take a look at the district of Wenings, which belongs to the town of Gedern, with its small Moritzstein castle.
Overnight stays in and around Gedern
The early bird catches the worm! Please book early if you are looking for accommodation outside but still close to the camping park.
The town of Gedern and its surroundings have a number of options ranging from very rustic wooden forest huts to holiday flats, a small number of guesthouses and a comfortable castle hotel. Our recommendation: please make all information and bookings early via the tourist information centre. We spoke to them and announced the high demand for the 2024 Germany Meeting. The staff at the tourist office are totally committed, friendly and happy to help - if Gedern is fully booked, then also with offers from neighbouring municipalities.

Vogelsberg & Wetterau region
Germany's largest and yet relatively unknown volcano is the Vogelsberg to the north-east of Fulda. To the south-west of the Vogelsberg is the Wetterau region, Gedern basically belongs to both, which is why we are briefly introducing both regions to you here:
The Vogelsberg
The former volcano is 773 metres high. One of the few German nature parks was created around it. Its natural beauty, the many opportunities for recreation and, above all, the tranquillity of this landscape reward visitors to this nature park. Pictures often say more than words, here is a YouTube video about the Vogelsberg volcanic region.
Excursion suggestions

Hoherodskopf treetop path and climbing forest
The pretty half-timbered small City of Lauterbach
Wetterau
The unique landscapes of the Wetterau extend in the direct neighbourhood of the Main metropolis of Frankfurt. Every single natural area has its own charm and invites you to be active in autumn. And here, too, there are beautiful pictures that speak every language (Where two kiss for the first time is Lake Gedern).

The two regions are linked by an extremely attractive cycle route that forms part of a cycle network covering almost the whole of Hesse. It mostly runs along disused railway lines and therefore only has gradients of a maximum of 3%, which is as steep as a steam locomotive could manage back then. The cycle route is asphalted throughout. It leads through varied countryside and reaches its highest point coming from the east in the village of Hartmannshain. Harmannshain can be reached by public bus, which also takes bicycles if there is space.
On Saturdays and Sundays, a cycle bus takes bikes and passengers to their departure points.
Samstags und sonntags bringt ein Radlerbus Räder und Passagiere zu ihren Abfahrtsorten.
LONGBOARD
From the village of Hartmannshain at an altitude of 580 metres to Gedern at an altitude of 313 metres, it is 14 kilometres almost permanently downhill on its own cycle and footpath. In some places, the route crosses roads or passes through villages. Take the public bus to Hartmannshain and then off you go!
